[WWII AU] a brand new day
Bucky wakes in the predawn darkness, long before reveille would normally be called. He spends a few minutes reviewing the mission in his head before he rolls from his cot; there's no room to think about anything else. He meets Steve and the rest of the Howling Commandos at five-fifteen. As planned, they're on the move before the hour has passed.
It's a long day, a hard day, but in the end a successful day, for the most part. The hidden facility carved into the hillside is no more when they leave, HYDRA's agents defeated, their stockpiles destroyed. But there's still no sign of Schmidt, nor of Zola, and that remains incredibly frustrating.
Still, there's reason to celebrate today's win, and the squad's more or less exuberant on their return, some fourteen or so hours later. Steve disappears into the command tent to debrief with Colonel Phillips; Bucky'll catch up with him afterward, as usual. He spends a few minutes trading quips with the others before disappearing to weapons storage to see to his own rifle - also as usual. Something about taking care of it helps him feel like he's cleaning the blood off his own hands.
After that, he finds he's too restless to settle yet, and figures it's not the best idea for him to be around others until he sorts himself out. Bucky wanders along the edge of camp in the dark, then veers from the path and off into the field where he'd spent some time watching the stars only a couple of days ago.
It should be peaceful there, more or less.

Sharon pushes up to kiss him, light and lingering and achingly sweet. "I like how you call me that," she murmurs. "Angel."
no subject
He leans in to kiss her again, more slowly this time, enjoying the taste of her mouth and the feel of her hand pressed to his chest.
no subject
And she likes the feel of him beneath her palm, warm and solid and, impossibly, wanting her back.
no subject
He runs one hand up her back and into her hair, cradling the back of her head and trying to coax her to rest it on his shoulder.
no subject
"I don't know how you do it," she murmurs. "I can't get enough of you."
no subject
"It's a secret."
Even from him, for that matter, but why spoil a good tease?
no subject
"That's my whole job."
no subject
"Then I'm sure you'll figure it out."
no subject
She hums a soft sound as his mouth presses against her hair, then tips her head to mouth a kiss over the side of his neck, feeling more drunk on him than on any alcohol she's ever had. "And pretty soon you'll get to see me in action."
no subject
"True," he murmurs. "Promise me you'll be careful, okay?"
no subject
She likes the shiver that runs over him, and nips lightly at the skin she'd just kissed before soothing it with another kiss. "Don't worry."
no subject
"I'll try." He tips his head to peer down at her. "Are you trying to distract me from worrying?"
no subject
She bites lightly at the cord of muscle at the side of his neck and then draws gently on the skin there with her mouth. "Because you're not worrying, right?"
no subject
"Not right now I'm not."
no subject
She mouth her way up his throat to the underside of his jaw, then presses a kiss just below the lobe of his ear. "Come watch Steve test me tomorrow. You'll see."
no subject
He draws a ragged breath and strokes a hand slowly along her back. "Baby, you're setting all my good intentions on fire, you know that, right?"
no subject
"That is so sweet."

She tugs his hair gently to coax him to tip his head so she can work around to the other side of his throat, like he'd done to her earlier. "I want to give you what you want."
no subject
"You are," he breathes. "Oh god, baby, believe me, you are."
no subject
He's shaking against her, his hands trembling at her waist, and it makes her slow down, ruthless, as she works her way up the line of his racing pulse toward his ear once more. She bites at it, then kisses his cheek and coaxes him to face her once more so she can kiss his mouth, deep and sweet.
no subject
Bucky kisses her again and again, drowning in her.
no subject
"Still think I'm going to change my mind?"
