[Virginia AU] we rose up from the falling waters

A little over a week goes by, and as it does Bucky falls into a pattern, slow but sure. He wakes with Sharon in the mornings, shares coffee and something that suffices for breakfast, then works a little on searches and checking contacts and sources from other time zones and locations. Mid-morning finds him at the Task Force offices with Riley and his team. Early afternoon finds him meeting with Ross, if there's any reason to; mid-afternoon he checks in with Steve, with Tony, or with Natasha before he goes back to tracing rumors and hints.

Today's different, though. Today is Sharon's first day back at work after her suspension, and Bucky's determined not to do a single damn thing that might possibly make it difficult for her.

She shifts down to lie on the pillow and watches him with dark, appreciative eyes.

"I'm really glad you're here," she murmurs. "Just in case I hadn't mentioned it yet today."

"I'm glad to be here, with you, too." Very, very softly, as he looks up to meet her glance.

"And I'm glad you're coming with us tomorrow."

She doesn't think it'll be difficult mission, but there are a lot of things that could go wrong, and Klaue isn't exactly known for being reasonable and understated.

They'll all be a lot safer with Bucky around.

“Believe me, I had no intention of staying behind,” he says, firmly. Still, his glance is gentle.

“Come here, baby. Curl up with me. Tomorrow’s going to get here soon enough.”

She does as he requests, sliding next to him and curling against the long warm line of his body, her head on his shoulder. "Then I'm glad you didn't have to trail us and just show up," she murmurs. "Ross would hate that."

But it didn't happen, so it's not worth worrying about. She settles against him, warm and relaxed, and closes her eyes. "Good night, baby."
