"No, you're not. Here." There's a stone staircase at the side of the building just ahead of them, one that leads down from the sidewalk into a basement - and which has just enough of a high railing for them to stand by the side of the building itself and be a little sheltered from passers-by. He scans for security cameras and finds none, and coaxes her to take the few steps more to get them out of the path of traffic.
"Now," he tells her, firmly. "You're not stupid. Don't say that."
